The Dragon Prince will return for a second 9-episode season in 2019. Praise the sun! (Or perhaps "Praise the moon" would be more fitting.)
That's the good news out of New York Comic Con this Friday. The animated series from Avatar: The Last Airbender alum Aaron Ehasz and Uncharted 3 writer Justin Richmond, along with executive producer Giancarlo Volpe, premiered on Netflix this September with an initial 9-episode run.
After finishing it all I could think was: 9 episodes is not enough. Not nearly enough.
Fantastic, complex characters, a beautiful art-style and a rich, magical world filled with mystery and war. That sense of adventure and wonder that made Avatar: The Last Airbender so incredible. All this and more made The Dragon Prince one of the best new Netflix shows of 2018.
I'm thrilled to see it renewed for a second season, though I'm hoping we get it earlier than next September. I was also hoping we'd get a longer second season given how short each episode is, but maybe we can settle for . . . longer episodes?
Then again, I'd rather the show's creators at Wonderstorm don't rush anything, and give us another solid season.
Interestingly, The Dragon Prince's creators have a much larger vision in mind than just a show. A video game is also in the works which is incredibly exciting, to put it mildly.
